Nitro187
I am using Retrospect 6.0, and I am getting this rediculous error whenever i try to backup using my Maxtor 5000DV drives. I have 4 Maxtor external 5000DV drives, which I rotate on a weekly basis, and here are the errors I started getting all of a sudden: + Retrospect version 6.0.206 Automatically launched at 8/22/2003 2:00 AM + Recycle backup using March Entertainment Backup at 8/22/2003 2:00 AM To Backup Set Backup Set B... 8/22/2003 2:00:16 AM: Recycle backup: The Backup Set was reset - 8/22/2003 2:00:16 AM: Copying File_Storage on Drive C (C:) 8/22/2003 3:39:28 AM: Snapshot stored, 4,742 KB 8/22/2003 3:39:30 AM: Comparing File_Storage on Drive C (C:) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9151856), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166536), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166536), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166536), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166773), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166773), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166773), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166774), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166774), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166774), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166775), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166775), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166775), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166847), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166847), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166847), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166921), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9166921), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9166921), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9168283), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble positioning: "Backup Set B" (9168283), error -102 (trouble communicating) Trouble reading: "Backup Set B" (9168283), error -102 (trouble communicating) So I don't understand why those errors all of a sudden, not only those errors, but some of these too: MapError: unknown Windows error 999 TFile: :Open: UCreateFile failed, G:\Retrospect\Backup Set C\1-Backup Set C\AD000070.rdb, winerr 999, error -1001 MapError: unknown Windows error 999 TFile: :Open: UCreateFile failed, G:\Retrospect\Backup Set C\1-Backup Set C\AD000070.rdb, winerr 999, error -1001 MapError: unknown Windows error 999 TFile: :Open: UCreateFile failed, G:\Retrospect\Backup Set C\1-Backup Set C\AD000070.rdb, winerr 999, error -1001 MapError: unknown Windows error 999 TFile: :Open: UCreateFile failed, G:\Retrospect\Backup Set C\1-Backup Set C\AD000070.rdb, winerr 999, error -1001 MapError: unknown Windows error 999 Can anyone help me out with this issue? It is very frustrating. I have two locations, one in Sudbury, and one in Toronto, using the same external hard drives, same version of retrospect, and same backup routine.... the Sudbury location works fine, but the Toronto one gets these errors. ANY help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

natew
Hi My gut says there is a problem with the USB connection for this device. It is hard to say if the problem is the drive itself or the USB interface on the computer. I would try the disk on another machine and see if you have the same trouble. Just in case trying another USB cable wouldn't hurt. Do you have another USB adapter card that you could try? Thanks Nate
