dougthurston
I've not actually done this one before, so forgive me if it's simple. I want to know what technical or logistical problems I will run into if I have two scripts set to use a single backup set. Scenario: Xserve running WKGRP 5.1 and it has numerous volumes (internal and Xserve RAID), numerous clients as well. I want to backup "documents" from all clients on MWF and "All files" from teh server volumes on TR (tue and thursday). Can I safely have both scripts (MWF clients and TR server volumes) backup to the same backup set (VXA2 tape library (10 tapes))? Mostly this is so I can get the complete contents of the volumes, while just documents from the client machines. I didnt' seem to understand the selector setup or it won't work this way. Also, if I use the selector "Documents" in setting up a script, will it still preserver the folder structure as well? Thanks! natew
Hi A backup set is its own seperate entity. It does not depend on any script or backup machine to function. You could even share a backup set between backup machines if you wanted to. That said go ahead and do what you are planning to do. It will work just fine. You could get fancy an create a custom selector that backs up all files on the server volumes and just docs on the workstations. Honestly your way is cleaner and easier. You can set them to run on the same night if you like. Just set the scripts to run 5 minutes apart. No matter how long it takes, the second script will start after the first has finished. When you filter your files using a selector the entire directory structure of the source volume is preserved in the snapshot. Nate
