Multi-Server 6.5.319 on W2003 hangs on Preparing to Execute

Recommended Posts

Well, the subject line says it all. I am having to babysit this version more than ever before. There is no ryhme or reason to the hands... adn the onlyw ay to escape is to end the process, which inevitably corrupts the catalog... so I am rebuilding the catalog three and four times a day!

This behaviour is consistent over multipe Backup Sets, so it does not seem to have anythng to do with one particular file. Any brilliant suggestions are appreciated.

Well I have this issue so I'll reply...

Same OS, same version of retrospect. Using a AIT Compaq SSL2020. Backup sources are primarily PC desktop clients with a few Macs.

Also, I noticed in the History tab in Proactive Backup that for the times that is has crashed the last two items show my two simultaneous excecution scripts with no errors, zero performance and zero elapsed time. The only reproducible thing I've see about this so far, so I thought is was worth mentioning...

I'll try a file set and see...

I just tried using a file set, same problem. It backed up about 4 clients, then it hung on "Preparing to Execute". Can't stop the Proactive Backup either, I click stop, it asks if I am sure I click yes and there is no change. I have to force quit the application, which of cources corrupts the catalog...

Hi

Does this happen with standard scripts as well? (I.e. not proactive backup)

If you manually start a script does this same thing happen?

What is the processor useage of the machine when this is happening?

Does the problem occur if you run proactive backup on local volumes only?

Sorry for all the questions, I`m just trying to narrow down wheather this is a proactive backup problem, a network driver problem or something else.

Thanks

Nate
