SFRETRO
I have Sony VAIO with Toshiba DVD ROM SDR 5002 with DVD-RW/CD-RW. Retrospect 6.0 does not list my Toshiba in Status window, clicking to Environment and no driver is listed, Dantz website lists Toshiba as supported. I have custom configured and the CR-RW is seen in the drive so CD-RW is blanked and accepted. All the following screens list CD-RW and not DVD-RW. I have tried to custom configure using a DVD-RW and the DVD-RW is not recognized and I am prompted to insert a CD-RW. Is this screen telling me I can only use CD's or is it a generic response and Retrospect 6.0 will use DVD's and work at top speed for DVD-RW's? I did read the Retrospect 6.5 instruction screen prompts to configure DVD-RW. Do I need to upgrade to 6.5?
SFRETRO
I was needing an answer to my post, so I started going back through the Forum. I had done multiple searches and could find nothing. On page 53 I found a possible solution, I tried it and it worked. Retrospect recognized my DVD-ROM and away I went. Here is what AmyJ wrote in #17718 on 12/06/02 "Make sure there are no pre-formatted CD's in the drive and try again. Next, disable any non-Microsoft processes and startup items by going to Start > Run and typing msconfig. In the System Configuration Utility, go to Services and hide all Microsoft Services. Disable all others. Repeat for Startup. Reboot and try to access the drive through Retrospect. This should help rule out third party software conflicts. If you can access the drive, start enabling Services and Startup items again a few at a time to determine which Service or Startup item is loading a driver for your device. " I did discover one thing. When you type "msconfig" do not type the period (.). I am currently doing a complete back up and will start enabling after the back up to see which software was using the device driver for my DVD-ROM.
