simonw
Hi Retrospect 5 with RDU21.exe Following a 'Forget' of a CDRW Back Up Set, Re-creating it and modifying the Back Up Script, Retrospect hangs on closure and disk thrashing occurs. The application stops responding. When the process is stopped in task manager my changes have to be repeated as if they were not saved. This is a fresh install following upgrade to Win XP Pro - Back Up perform well in all cases. Any comments would be much appreciated, TIA, Simon License KUXX *D** *3** 5HLA
natew
Hi What exact version of Retrospect do you have? What other burning programs are installed? What hardware are you running on? In other words, details please Thanks Nate
simonw
Hi The version is 5.15 The hardware is unbadged, but it's a standard intel board The drive is a Yamaha SCSI CDRW When I opened Retro' to find this information it did not close without hanging and disk thrashing again. I did not make any changes. I had to end the task in Task Manager I have upgraded Retro' with the file RDU21.exe when reinstalling it following a fresh install of XP Pro SP1. No burn software is exists other that Retrospect. The CDRW is not used for any other purpose. TIA Simon
natew
Hi Simon Sorry for the slow response. You really need Retrospect 5.6 or better to run on XP. I suspect that is what is wrong. Try downloading the trial version of Retrospect 6.5 and seeing if you have better results. You can also try running the ASPIINST.exe program located in the Retrospect folder. That will change the way Retrospect communicates with your CD drive. Do you have any trouble with the built in CDRW functionality in Windows XP? simonw
Hi Nate Thanks for responding We have not experienced any trouble with the built-in CDRW functionality of Windows XP Pro. It looks like I will have to download the trial. Will I risk upsetting any Backup Sets or Scripts. We have one 10 day Rotation to a hard disk, and a 10 week rotation to CDRW Many Thanks for this... natew
Hi I would make extra copies of your config files before you install 6.5. The two files are in your Retrospect folder called config5.0.dat and config50.bak Nate
