garfield
I have set this option (Configure>Preferences>Media>Erasure) to Automatically reuse named media. Does this only work if the tape is named the same as what the schedule is expecting? I ask because the scheduled job still stopped to ask for the correct tape when I used another. I also tried other option (Minimal erase confirmation) and still it asked for the expected named tape. Surely, I have done something wrong and am not aware - I've only recently begun testing the demo of Retrospect Pro 6.5 on Win XP Lastly, what would the upgrade price be from an old Mac version of Retrospect? thanks, Jim

Right under the option checkbox it says "Don't confirm before erasing destination media with same name already containing data". That means that with the option set, it will reuse a tape from the same backup set without asking permission, but not from any other. See pages 103-104 of the User's Guide (you downloaded it as part of the demo) for additional explanation. In particular, "Retrospect is very particular about tapes ... they must be blank or erased, or their names must exactly match the requested names in order for Retrospect to proceed without prompting you. ... Retrospect may ask you to confirm before erasing a medium which appears to belong to another backup set. It wlil not allow you to erase a member of the Backup Set currently in use." However, this didn't bother me much, not after I found that I could buy the license for Pro 6.5 for as little as $72 (download only, no physical product): http://www.pagecomputers.com/cgi-bin/page/M0812937.html Even if you want the boxed set, you can get it for under $100 including shipping -- try Page Computers (above) or PC Warehouse (http://www.warehouse.com). Actually, I want to upgrade from an old Mac version of Retrospect to the latest version for the Mac. Jim
