Spanning a Backup over multiple Firewire disks

Recommended Posts

Hi,

we are running Retrospect for Workgroups 5.0.something on OS X.2.5. This computer is our fileserver and has about 300 GB spanned over multiple SCSI Harddisks. We just got 4 80 GB Firewire drives since our DLT drive went out of order for no reason. Now I'd like to have a Backup of our fileserver onto these new Firewire disks, leaving out some not-so-important stuff to prevent running out of space too soon.

Is there a way to span whether a File-Backup over multiple files or is Retrospect able to treat the Firewire HDD's like removables?

Thanks in advance,

Bernhard

It's a feature of the Windows product, but still not available for Mac.

You could stripe the 4 drives to show as a single large volume, using OS X's built in RAID software (available from the Disk Utility application).
