mhegge
Having stability issues with my backup system. System as follows: Blue & White G3 w/Powerlogix G4 ZIF 500Mhz OS X 10.2.6 Adaptec 29160 Quantum DLT1 tape drive FW DVD-R Lacie FW HD 56GB Lacie 512MB RAM (2 x 256) 4GB Main drive 37GB internal Retrospect 5.0238 Retrospect is freezing during the running of a backup script. Total freeze, no way to force out. Had to do a Repair>Verify>, to make sure the script would run again. Freeze happens during the first phase of the backup where it is backing up the Main drive of the system itself. I have used Disk Utility to Verify Permissions, Booted from OS X CD and run Repair. All clear. I am ticked because I changed over to OS X-based Retrospect on a faster G4 system (previosly was using a G3 clone with OS 9 and it was actually very reliable) and have had issues ever since. mhegge
OK, now it just quit out of a backup with no warning, no error, no nothing! Retrospect was not running at all when I went to check the backup!
shadowspawn
Three things to consider: 1) I am not sure whether you get the latest drivers as part of the Mac OS install. The SCSI compatibility guide says Quote: PowerDomain 29160N (Requires Mac OS X 10.2.2 with Adaptec driver 1.2 or later) have you checked you have this? 2) You disk may be corrupt. Do a backup of a small part of your disk. Does this work OK? Split your disk in half using selectors. Try one half, try the other half, any pattern? 3) Or worst case, it is something to do with the processor upgrade. Can you easily remove the upgrade and try the same backup? mhegge
Now I am getting the 1 terabyte limit error, which is completely bogus because the backup set is only 200-208 MB and I have NEVER got this error before...ever. This is getting very frustrating as Dantz does not have a workaround to "split" as they say, the backups
mhegge
I am in the process of compressing the backup Sets. Seems to be my only logical out until Dantz fixes this. With all the data I have backed up over the years and never having this happen, I am not pleased. This is a new backup that was created, backing up the same data as the previous set! mhegge
Compressing the backup set did not allow me to continue my backups, still getting the limitation. How do I split backup sets while still using the same series of tapes?
mhegge
- Running OS 10.2.6, so all driver for the Adaptec 29160 should be up-to-date. Thing is,backups WERE working fairly well. - The Powerlogix ZIF requires no software drivers - ZAPPED pram (thrice) after removing one of the memory chips, it now has 2 identical 256MB chips - Permissions have been verifyed and repaired, severall times. - Backup Sets have been compressed - Still get: 8/12/2003 7:15:54 AM: Copying GEM_MPLS_DATA on GEM_MPLS_DATA… Can't add that much data to backup set. The limit is 1000.0 G. 8/12/2003 7:29:05 AM: Execution incomplete. Remaining: 310 files, 1.4 GB Completed: 0 files, zero KB Performance: 0.0 MB/minute Duration: 00:13:11 (00:13:09 idle/loading/preparing) 8/12/2003 7:29:05 AM: Execution incomplete.
