sponnath
I am using a Sony Vaiao with a Pioneer DVR-103. I manually configured the DVD/CD unit and it worked. First I tried a backup to HP brand CD-RW and it doesn't even see them in the drive. Keeps telling me to put a CD in. Then I tried some TDK CD-RWs. Now it tells me that the CD-RW is write protected. Not really sure why it things the CD-RW is write protected. How do I get around this problem?
natew
Hi, Did you configure the drive for each kind of media you want to use? What other burning programs do you have on your computer? Can you turn them off? Thanks Nate
sponnath
When you say configure for each kind, do you have to configure it for brands of CDs as well as types? After sending this note last night, I tried to configure again. I configured for CD-R, then I put in an HP brand CD-RW and it didn't even recognize that there was media in the drive. I took that out and put in a TDK CD-RW and it got an error in configuring. So right now, I was only able to successfully configure the CD-R (Memorex). There is no Nero or CD Creator on this machine. It does have Veritas CD creation software and I need to double check that it doesn't have something loaded but if it did, I would think that the CD-R would have failed also. Any help appreciated. I was really hoping 6.5 would fix my problems.
sponnath
Could someone, hopefully a Dantz person such as AmyJ, comment on the Pioneer DVR-103. I find confusing posts in the forums and mostly involving other OS besides windows. What is the best conclusion on this drive on a Windows XP machine with 6.5? AmyJ
The drive is not natively supported. If you are able to successfully configure the drive for the various media types (supported by the drive) then it should work with Retrospect. If the drive can only be configured with CD-R media, you'll be limited to CD-R at this time. The auto-configurator may not work with all drives under all configurations. We expect to make improvements to the auto-configurator through driver updates and application updates in the future to allow a wider range of drive support. You may be able to improve configurator results by going through device troubleshooting applicable to your device type (ATAPI, Firewire, etc.) which can be found in the Knowledgebase
sponnath
So should I even try the DVR-103 with other media like DVD based media? Or should I just give up on it and put in a different drive? If I do put in a different drive, then what is the absolute best CD-RW drive that will give me ABSOLUTELY NO incompatibility problems on the Vaio under XP Home? I want no more problems. This is getting too much.
