can't open backup program v 5.6

I loaded Retrospect Express v5.6 on my Dell with Win XP Home ed. and to date have not been able to open this pgm. to do a backup. I keep getting the error message which says " cannot open because the program failed to intialize properly" What the H-- is this all about? Tried to uninstall and re-install several times and get the same message so zilch backups so far. Do I trash the program or is there a way out?
