Why upgrade?

Windows version 5.6 was included in Maxtor 120 GB external HD. This entitles me to a cheaper upgrade to version 5.6 (I assume Professional). What are the advantagaes/disadvantages of doing so?

I am using the drive to back up client documents on local and networked computers on a peer network.

Many thanks for replies,

Hi,

I have a biased opinion but the upgrade is pretty worthwhile.

You get better networking ability, the option to run multiple backups at once, better reporting and the ability to span multiple hard disks with your backup.

6.5 Professional includes 2 network clients and the ability to add more. Restoring is also much easier as you can restore from any snapshot (not just the most recent one like Express)

Best bet is to download the trial and see for yourself, if you like it all you have to do is buy a code and type it in - no reinstall necessary

There are discussions of this topic scattered about these forums.

I sure wish Dantz would crate a definitive document describing the difference.

Likely would increase their sales.

As I recall there are features included in the full product, not included in Express, that are worthwhile even if you do not have a network.

I also believe that it is better to use 6.5 because, my recollection is, Dantz has stated that the format of the backup set for Express is not compatible with that of 6.5, so at some point, you are going to want to have the latest version. At some point, I may test this assertion.
