manciaux
Would a dirty tape drive be a potential cause for an "catalog out of sync" error?
webfoo
I'm getting the same errors myself i was using 5.1 which worked fine until i got this new version. Now on the dantz website there are no "definite statements" saying use the updates for 6.5 on your sbs edition. In my last post a member said i should use them if i feel like. My client is geting really pissed of because i recommended the software.. This issue is driving me insane. My sbs box is patched with all the latest updates. All scsi drives tape dirve is a Sony AIT 30 - 90 gb. The drive shows up in the device manager. Any advice on the issue "out of sync" and "Recommended Updates" will be appreciated. Thanks webfoo
natew
Hi Generally Catalog out of sync means that the data in the catalog does not match the data on the tape. This can be caused by I/O problems to the BU device, problems on the disk where the catalog is stored, Power outages during backup... Make sure you have disabled the Windows drivers for your tape drive in device manager. It could also be as simple as a corrupt catalog- you can try rebuilding it from your last tape. Also disable any other backup software services. You can try saving the catalog file on a different drive too. Let us know what you have tried so far Nate
webfoo
Well the motherboard was updated to the latest bios still no retrospect. 2 onboard controllers no show. Placing the catalog file on a diffent system didn't solve the errors but funny enough windows 2000 native backup worked and even restored files from it perfectly. Eventually a seperate scsi card had to be placed into the system and only then did retrospect work as intended. Now is this normal or odd?? natew
Hi If a SCSI card fixed it there must have been a buffering problem of some kind. Sounds like a command didn't quite get through to the device or was not executed properly. What card did you end up using? Nate
