mhegge
I just upgraded my backup system to OS X. My daily backups of my server are running fine but my script for backing up desktops suddenly just scans each and does not back them up to tape. And, one user (OS 9, dual 867) cannot startup his system with the Client endabled. HELP!

Without additional configuration information, effective troubleshooting just isn't possible. - What OS? - What version of Retrospect? - What is the make/model of your backup device? While in Retrospect, go to Configure > Devices > Device Status and list Vendor, Product and Version for your drive. - What is the make/model of your SCSI card (if applicable) - Have you checked the Operations Log for error messages? - Does the same problem occur if you backup a small data set to a file backup set rather then a tape backup set? - What OS's are the clients running? What version of the software? - How is your network configured?
mhegge
- What OS? OS X 10.2.6 - What version of Retrospect? 5.0 (newest before 5.1) - What is the make/model of your backup device? While in Retrospect, go to Configure > Devices > Device Status and list Vendor, Product and Version for your drive. DLT1 Quantum - What is the make/model of your SCSI card (if applicable) Adaptec 29160 - Have you checked the Operations Log for error messages? Just did, error -24201 (chunk checksum didn't match) on all users - Does the same problem occur if you backup a small data set to a file backup set rather then a tape backup set? Not sure - What OS's are the clients running? What version of the software? Clients are OS 9 and OS X with the newest (prior to 5.1) - How is your network configured? TCP/IP network, some users 1000MB, others 100MB ethernet

natew
Hi Make sure you have all of the latest drivers/firmware installed for the upgrade card. I have seen those cause a lot of problems. By the way does Apple support using upgrade cards with OSX? I seem to recall they don't. How often to you reboot the backup machine? That helps with memory management problems and such. You have Retrospect 5.0.238 right? Yoy may want to run the Retrospect uninstaller/reboot the machine and reinstall using only the 5.0.238 updater. shadowspawn
Quote: but my script for backing up desktops suddenly just scans each and does not back them up to tape What does it show in the log for these clients? (Copy and paste!) It is unclear whether you are having hardware (tape), or software (Retrospect), or network (client) problems. Given you are running Mac OS X and Retrospect on an accelerated computer you may reach a point where that is an issue, but I don't think anything suggests that is the problem yet.
