GerryRigney
Hello On our current backup script we backup 5 shared folders that are contained on one drive (E:\) We recently installed a new drive (F:\) on the server and copied the largest folder (Projects) from E:\ to F:\. I wish to reconfigure retrospect so that it backups Projects on F:\ as opposed to E:\, however if I just edit the script will retrospect think it is an entirely new folder and backup the whole thing first time (93 Gb!!)? Basically I need retrospect to realise the the folder is the same on just in a new location. I would appreciate any help on the topic, best regards Gerry
AmyJ
Matching is the scheme for comparing file attributes to determine whether files are identical, which then allows intelligent copying to avoid redundancy. Also see incremental backup. Retrospect uses several matching criteria to find new or changed files. If one of the criteria has been changed, Retrospect will back up the file again. On Windows, Retrospect looks at creation date and time, modified date and time, size and name. If match only in same location option is set, Retrospect matches on the path, volume name and drive letter also. By default, the archive attribute is not used as a matching criteria in Windows, allowing for true and reliable backups to multiple backup sets.
