writing dvds to Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 rev. A227

I wrote 13 DVDs successfully, but number 14 and 15 return -206 error (dirty heads, etc.) when the disk is getting close to full.

Does 5.1 fix this problem? Are the data on those disks okay. How can I check if the data is okay? What's it going to take to fix this?

The log says:

Does 5.1 fix this problem? Are the data on those disks okay. How can I check if the data is okay? What's it going to take to fix this?

It sounds more like you may have had a few bad discs. Make sure you are using name brand media, such as TDK, Sony or Verbatim. You should mark the last two discs as missing through Configure > Backup Sets > Configure > Members and run the backup again to pickup the data that was on these discs.

I'm using Apple brand DVD-Rs. Are you saying that Retro would write to these disks for five or six sessions before deciding they were bad? Wouldn't a bad disk show itself on first attempt? I've noticed other posts about 206 errors when disks were full. Are all of those problems bad disks as well?

Retrospect does not perform any kind of surface check on the disc before writing. A bad spot on any disc could cause errors, and usually cannot be detected before the write process. You were able to successfully complete and fill 13 discs before seeing any errors. The first place to troubleshoot is with the discs.
