Backup device not found error

We have just installed on our MAC OS9 machine a trial version of Retrospect Desktop 5.1.

Following the manual to make our first backup, fine. But when we go to 'backup' we get the error 'No Backup Device Found'.

We are wanting to use the Macs internal CD writer as we have no external SCSI or USB drives. Is it possible to use this internal CD and if so what may be the problem.
