Assertion failure at "tyce.cpp-2948"

Hello,

When trying to export selectors in the latest version of Dantz Retrospect Professional, I get the error:

Retrospect has encountered a serious error:

Assertion failure at "tyce.cpp-2948"

A log of this error has been written to the file "assert_log.utx".

I cannot find the log file. I am running this on Windows 2000 Professional.

Kind regards,

Gary Keny

Hello,

I apologise for the delay - this problem is on my home computer. Looking at my selection criteria:

(1) I have 7 groups of includes, each specifically designed to backup the same directory hieararchy on multiple users, one example: name exactly matches 'Documents and Settings' and 'Application Data' and 'Microsoft' and 'Outlook' and pattern matches '*.pst'.

(2) I have 5 groups of excludes, each specifically designed to exclude a specific file or file type, one example: name exactly matches 'Thumbs.db'.

Does this help in diagnosing the problem?

Kind regards,

Gary Kenny

Hmmmm

Nothing stands out as unusual ,that is for sure.

My best quess is that the portion of your configuration file that contains this particular selector is a bit - funny - shall we say? It is rare but I have seen it happen with client databases too.

I would try the following:

-use the Check selector feature and make sure the selector works (I imagine you have already done this)

-Try a test export of one of the built in Retrospect selectors - if that fails then we should try a whole new set of configuration files

-Make a copy of the selector and try to export the copy

-Delete rules from the copied selector and see if there is a "break point" so to speak.

let us know what happens

Nate

Hello,

Thanks for your help Nate. It seems that the issue was with the selector itself:

(1) I tried exporting standard selectors - this worked fine.

(2) I tried duplicating my selector - same error as before.

(3) I started removing selection items until no more existed - same error as before with no items listed.

(4) Recreated the selector from scratch - this works fine.

This selector was created in an earlier version of Retrospect before upgrading - maybe this was the issue!

During this process, I discovered the Windows Folder Wildcard selection which was a great help in reducing the size of my selector (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\*\My Documents\)

Thanks again, Nate.

Cheers,

Gary
