psorantin
I created a 10 DVD-RW disk based backup set from my G4 with Retro 5.1. Looks basically good; I just skipped verification for most disks, since backup took forever (10 disks, 40GB data, ca. 2h per disk). When I go to Reports -> Content and choose my backup set, I can see all files in the browser. Good! But when I go to Immediate -> Restore, choose restore files from this backup set and then go to the "Files chosen" menu, I see only part of my cataloged files. No idea why I can't see all my files!!!?? Help appreciated. Peter
natew
Hi there, What files are missing? Are they grouped together or just random files here and there? When you did the backup did you use the "all files" option or something else? If you start another normal backup, Retrosepct should only copy new and changed files. How much data does Retrospect report needs to be copied when you try this? Thanks
psorantin
Natew, Txs for your reply. The problem was caused by the fact that I stopped the verification process for 8 out of the 11 DVD-RW's I used. What fixed the problem was doubleclicking on the catalog file: It showed a list of all 11 DVD-RW's I used. I clicked then on all DVD's I had not verified and enabled a check box saying something like "found again". Its a bit confusing that "checking content" shows all files, but then the Retrieve function only make the part of the catalog available that has verified disks. My only complain now is the slowness of the backup process: - granted, DVD-RW's need some time to be written - granted, both the drive and the source media (Maxtor Firewire drive 75GB) are on the firewire bus - BUT A PERFORMANCE of 50MByte per ***MINUTE*** ? Is that typcial for Retro? Txs, Peter

Actually, the problem was caused by the fact that you stopped the Execution before it had a chance to write its Snapshot. If you'd disabled Verification from the backup's preference and let it run all the way through, you'd have been ok. Dave
