pjudkins
I just installed the latest Microsoft Patch to correct the Buffer Overrun in the RPC Interface and now Retrospect cannot backup to my tape drive. It does not recognize the tape and all operations remain on "Pending." Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Microsoft just put out the patch yesterday (July 16) so it may be too soon for many to have seen the problem. Mine became evident this morning when my nightly backup failed and I was unable to get the program to respond using an immediate script backup. Thanks for any responses. I am stuck! AmyJ
Does the Windows Device Manager see the tape drive?
pjudkins
Thanks for the response. Everything appears normal when examining the installed devices listed in Device Manager. Windows indicates that the tape drive is functioning properly. However, when a script starts to run, Retrospect indicates that the tape is rewinding when in actuality nothing is happening to the tape. The script is stuck in the "pending" mode. If I test the drive using Configure | Device, the program indicates the tape is rewinding, but as previously explained nothing happens at the drive. I have run the repair funtion and also completely reinstalled Retrospect with no luck. It is still failing at the same point. As far as Windows Device Manager is concerned everything is working just fine. Arrrrgh! Do you have any other suggestions? PWJ
kaikow
For what OS is the patch? What is the URL for the patch?

kaikow
Just checked, MSFT has moved/removed that web page, so perhaps there are indeed problems.
pjudkins
Unfortunately, out of sheer frustration and not looking for things to complicate my life any more that it already is, I have abandoned Retrospect and gone to another backup program. Too bad becuase when Retrospect was working, I really liked it. I am not willing to spend more money for upgrades since they are so damn stingy with their customer support. All the best to the rest of you. Hopefully you will have better luck, PWJ
