LouieTK
Hi. New to Retrospect. Eager to get up and running. However, on my first backup attempt, after 3 CDs were backed up (only part-way through entire job, which I would have expected to required 8 CDs), I was asked to insert CD#1 to begin verification. Either on that CD or on a subsequent CD that I was asked to insert for verification, I received an Error 100 and the job terminated. Investigating Eror 100 through the KnowledgeBase and this Forum, I confirmed that my device (LG CED-8120B) was in fact supported. Only other troubleshooting step that seems relevant is that I am using Roxio CD Creator 5. Early posts to the forum suggest I need to disable CD Creator (if that's the case, I probably will not stick with Retrospect). Later posts indicate there are no compatibiity problems, which is hopefully true. But what then do I do to avoid Error 100 in the future? Meanwhile, how do I know whether the first backup CDs are valid? And finally, can I resume the backup somehow in progress, or do I need to start over? Seems that the failure reporting on this product is great, but the solutions to failures are pretty well-hidden. Thanks for any help. P.S. I'm runnng on Windows XP Home. AmyJ
To resolve the error use the following steps. 1) Try a new CD 2) Try a different brand of media (name branded, such as TDK, Verbatim or Sony) 3) Look for updated adapter drivers and firmware: ATAPI vendors may offer newer firmware or drivers which may make for better device communication. 4) Try a new IDE cable. Internal ATAPI cables could become crimped or damaged. Inspect them if necessary. 5) Try making your ATAPI device "master" rather then a "slave" or "cable select". 6) Try disabling any other CD mastering software to rule out a conflict. 7) Try the device on another computer. If you do all of the above, and the error follows the drive to another computer, that could be an indication of a problem with the device. Check with the hardware vendor to see if they can offer any additional suggestions.
LouieTK
Have to say I feel like I've been given a standard response and certain specifics of my question were overlooked. In particular, does Roxio CD Creator 5 cause problems with Retospect 6.5? I'm unwilling to disable or find another CD utility for the sake of Retrospect. OK, I'll try some brand name CD's. OK, I'll look for updated firmware (where do I go for that?). As for all the device and cable substitutions, if that's what's required to reliably use Retrospect, then I'm not in your market. I'm a small business guy who has to make do with his own IT skills and who doesn't have the time for that level of troubleshooting (already spent more time on this than most small businesses would have even considered). Your product should work without all this effort. Thanks for the further help.
