GlennBrensinger
I have an HP Proliant 380 G3 running Windows 2000 SP3. I installed an Adaptec LVD adapter (since the build in connector is not LVD) and connected a Quantum ValueLoader (formerly the Benchmark VS640.) So far my attempts at an automated backup have not been successful. My first manual attempt complained that there were open files, and Open File mode was not available. I don't know why this happened, as no one was even in the office to use the server. (The files it complained about were PerfDat type files in the WINNT area and an Adobe Reader DLL.) I am now trying to set it up so it will do a daily incremental backup M-Th and a full backup on Friday. I have 5 tapes in slots 2-6 plus a cleaning tape in slot 8. I loaded the 6th slot tape and told it to do a Friday backup. It unloaded tape 6, loaded tape 2, and called it "Friday A." It says it will go to the next empty tape for Monday's backup, which I assume will be Tape 3 (so now everything is off by one position. I'm going to have to switch them around.) What I need to ensure is that it will then reuse those tapes come next Friday. Will it know to switch to Friday's tape on Friday, and Monday's tape on Monday, or will it complain that there are no empty tapes? I have not yet checked if the ValueLoader supports barcodes, but we don't even have a barcode printer so that's moot. Is there a way to assign a backup set to a particular tape slot? If I close Retrospect, will it still perform the backups, or must it be left running? (Documentation is at the office, the question just popped into my head.)
