problem accessing clients

Recommended Posts

I've installed client on several computers on the network, and the backup computer can see them on the Live Network. When trying to access the volume properties of each client I get the following message:

can't track volumes, error -1(unknown)

Also when I click refresh under general properties the following message appears:

client speed test failed, error -1(unknown)

Does anyone know what this means and why I can't access the clients even though I can see them?

Thanks.

You may be experiencing some network issues.

Try installing the application on a different computer and see if clients can be logged in. This will help isolate if the problem is with the original computer.

Try running a crossover cable directly between the server and client to make a 2-computer peer to peer. This will help isolate if the problem is with the network.

Update/reinstall NIC drivers

Reinstall TCP/IP protocols

What Operating Systems are involved?

Which version of Retrospect application and client?

Was this an upgrade?

I installed Retrospect on another computer and got the same errors messages. I was able to see clients on the original computer when I first installed Retrospect.

I do not think it is the network since I can ping and transfer files. I also reinstalled NIC drivers and TCP/IP. One of the client computers is brand new so there should be no problems with it.

What Operating Systems are involved? ME (running Retrospect), 98, XP

Which version of Retrospect application and client? Professional 6.0, Client 6.5

Was this an upgrade? yes
