prepress
I am having a problem retrieving info off one particular back up tape, a Fuji DLTtape IV 40 gig/80 gig tape. Other tapes work OK so I know it is a problem with the tape itself, much of the info on this tape is very valuable so I wanted to know if there was any way of possibly saving it. When I search for a file or folder everything goes as normal but it can not locate the file it just continues to spin and sounds like it is searching but finds nothing. Eventually (1 hour later) we will have to force quit it. If I were to make a copy of the entire tape might that work? or re-catalogue? Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks. PS: We had a copy of this but IU can't find it and it wasn't working well anyway!
AmyJ
With a bad tape, your option is to contact a data recovery house. Data recovery tends to be an expensive prospect ($2000/tape, for instance). Here's one: http://www.computer-conversions.com/
