peet1
I've posted on this topic before, but nothing every came of it and i limped along on a sort of half-working solution. I've upgrade my servers to xserves and now the half-solution does not work. I've got 2 xserves and Retrospect Server 5.newest on one and Retrospect client 5.newest on the other. I am on a 10 base T flat network. No switching is involved anywhere. Consequently, I do NOT want to backup over my network. I've connected the two servers over another interface (en2). I can ping both ways over this enterface and can run other protocols over it too. I've got the client setup at 10.0.0.1 and the the server setup at 10.0.0.2 both with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. I cannot, however, connect to the client by typing in 10.0.0.1. It times out. I'm assuming this is because en2 is third on my "Network Port Configurations" for both client and server. It is vital to my setup that the en0 be frist on the list. It was my understanding that Mac OS X is a multi-homing OS. Why then would retrospect have any problems finding the client @ 10.0.0.1? I'm at a bit of a loss here. peet
Mayoff
The Retrospect Client does not fully support Multihoming. Users need to make the "client's network card" the top item in the Network Port configurations.
Guest
Yeah, the handling of multi-homed hosts is lame, lame, lame. See the diatribe by user <dantzspam> and the lame whining that followed. http://forums.dantz.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=clients&Number=24568&Forum=All_Forums&Words=7431&Match=Username&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=24568&Search=true#Post24568 --slowpoke
peet1
When will this problem be fixed? Next version? An update? You've (that is to say dantz) has always said that their's no support for multi homing because os 9 didn't support it. Well that was a valid argument ... retrospect can't see something the os can't. But now that there's support for multi-homing, there doesn't seem to be any valid reason to not support it. thanks.peet ps. if i make en3 the second on the list on both client and server the machines see each other and backups work ... though this sounds like it's unsupported.
