paf
We have a Qualstar 4212 AIT 2 Tape Library, which used to work fine under OS9 and Retrospect there. Since upgrading to OSX (We are now using OSX server 10.2.6, and the latest version of Retrospect with the latest driver update), we have not been able to see the Loader-menu. We have switched SCSI-controller, to an ATTO UL3-controller (works fine), upgraded the firmware of the library to 2.20E and set SCSI IDs to 1 and 4. LUN is 0. Still Retrospect only sees the AIT-drive in Configure->Devices. However - when going into Device Status, both the Library and drive are visible there, but the library is not "understood" by Retrospect. Backup works fine, but it's a regular PITA changing tapes manually when you actually have (and need) a library! The 4212 is listed as a compatible device with firmware 2.07 or newer. Any suggestions as to further research or how this can be fixed?
Mayoff
If possible, confirm that the library is in "Random" or "SCSI" mode.
dgtldan
I have been able to get several Qualstars, even ones not in the support list, working by: Turn on SCSI Logging, Do a rescan from "Device Status" page, Review the Log for a line of two that reads someting like "Drive at [sCSI ID], Loader at [sCSI ID], Loader expected drive at [sCSI ID]". Change the SCSI ID to what the log reports it should be. I am not sure why this is... perhaps someone can explain this behaviour in detail. Best.... -- Dan S. rshort
How/where do you turn on SCSI logging? We have a TLS-4222 and are experiencing the same difficulties. Thanks
AmyJ
SCSI Logging can be enabled by going to the Special tab, holding down the Option key and clicking Preferences.
paf
I have tried your suggestion. Still doesn't work. Maybe an excerpt from the Retrospect log might help us find out about this? dgtldan
Try the loader on ID 5 and keep both the loader and the drive on the same SCSI buss and LUN. I have done this on four models of Qualstar libraries with only one drive in the library, and they all work with 5.238 working under OS9. I have never tried the libraries with multiple drives using the Windows version. I have noticed that AIT-1 drive want to be set to ID 2, and AIT-2 drives want to be set to ID 4. I hard set the SCSI address on the drives with jumpers, but make the configuration:drive menu on the library have the same address as was set with the jumpers on the drive. Enjoy. --- Dan S.
