lucian
Has anyone had any luck with the Panasonic LF-D521 MultiDrive, I have no Problems with DVD-RAM disks but I can't use any other formats as the Drive does not show up in the status window, I am using retrospect 6.5 but had the same issue with 6.0 with driver update 3.8.106 if I run the configuration utility which I should have to as it supported by default it hangs on please insert disk after it blanks the disk (CD-RW) ejecting and reinserting makes no difference, I am using windows 2000 pro, I also have a Panasonic DVD MULTI Drive SW-9571-CYY which doesn't have this problem. (although it has others)
AmyJ
The LF-D521 and the SW-9571-CYY are actually identical drives in every way. Do you have them both on the same computer? If so, how are they configured? Try straightening out the internal ribbon cabling. Try switching master and slave settings. Try new internal cabling. Try updating the firmware on the device if possible (see the drive manufacturer's website). Are the drivers for the IDE controller current? Try updating them with an approved update from your PC vendor. Was ASPI installed correctly? Run ASPICHK (in the Retrospect Program Files folder) to make sure ASPI is "green." If not, try a reinstall (ASPIINST.exe). Enable NT SCSI Passthrough to bypass ASPI: From the Retrospect Directory hit Ctrl-Alt-P-P. Under "Execution," check "Enable NT SCSI Passthrough." Click OK. Quit and relaunch. Finally, try bringing this drive to another PC and trying the backup. If it works here, you could be having a problem with either the ATAPI bus on the original machine or with the PC itself.

If so, how are they configured? Yes I realised this the SW-9571-CYY is the OEM version of the LF-D521 , and have have swapped the drives, with identical settings and the 9571 (1.55) shows up with a driver, and when I plug in the D521 it say it requires "device confuguration" Try straightening out the internal ribbon cabling. I don't think this the issue the Drive work fine for everything else burns CD-R/DVD-R writes to DVD-RAM etc just isn't recognised by Retrospect properly even though it show up as a LF-D521 it has no driver attached and therefore only lets me backup to DVD-RAM as they are seen as removable disks Try switching master and slave settings. tried this try new internal cabling. Haven't done this but I have tried two different machine with Win2K and had the same problem on both and the 9571 worked on both with the same cables, I have also tried with windoes XP PRO Try updating the firmware on the device if possible (see the drive manufacturer's website). Done that it even shows up in the evironment window with the new firmware displayed A112 Are the drivers for the IDE controller current? Try updating them with an approved update from your PC vendor. Tried installing aspi on one of the machine using win2k Pro and it didn't make any difference Enable NT SCSI Passthrough to bypass ASPI: From the Retrospect Directory hit Ctrl-Alt-P-P. Under "Execution," check "Enable NT SCSI Passthrough." Click OK. Quit and relaunch. On the XP PRO machine it is already using NT Passthrough Finally, try bringing this drive to another PC and trying the backup. If it works here, you could be having a problem with either the ATAPI bus on the original machine or with the PC itself. Have moved to entirely different machine to no avail, at this rate I think it may be the drive although it works with all other software - like Easy CD creator 6 which is why I was wondering if anyone actually uses the LF-D521 with retrospect, basically I want know it it works for anyone
