snodman
I tried backing up this evening for the first time since the Mac OS X 10.2.5 update with a new FW 800 dual 1.25 gig Mac and the stock Apple Superdrive (Pioneer DVR-105 A506). I also have a LiteOn CDRW in the lower optical bay. Both drives show as fully supported for Apple Disc burning, but suddenly my superdrive is not available as a backup drive within RE. The RE device scanner DOES see it, but only the LiteOn CDRW is bolded. If I stick a piece of media in the superdrive that the finder can mount, the superdrive shows up in the available storage devices window, but as soon as I eject the media the superdrive disappears from the RE available storage devices window. Inserting a partially filled DVD from a backup set (the one RE is asking for during a backup) does not work (it does not get seen by the program and the finder offers to reformat the media - a bad thing). Is there an incompatibility with these new Macs, OS X 10.2.5 and RE 5.0.238?
AmyJ
This drive is not yet supported for use with Retrospect. For a list of currently qualified devices, please see: Hardware Search Engine Our next release for the Macintosh will dramatically change the way we write to CD and DVD devices, and allow us to support new drives along with many previously unsupported drives. There is currently no ETA for the next release.
snodman
Thanks for the fast response. I was unable to use the drive with RE before the 5.0.238 update. After installing that update I was able to use the Superdrive for backups (with Mac OS X 10.2.3 - I think - and 10.2.4 for sure). Now, with 10.2.5 it doesn't work again. I suppose the drive has remained officially uncertified through the Jaguar minor updates. Glad to hear you are working on a way to support most popular drives with Retrospect on Macs. It's always frustrating to see the long list of RE supported drives for PCs and not see the same drive supported for Macs.

uprufssu
Quote: Update 3.5.104 (posted today) fixes the problem. My 4x Superdrive is recognized again! Thanks. Hmmm... help! New dual G4/1.25 with stock Pioneer DVR-105 SuperDrive, same OS X 10.2.3 it came with, and RE doesn't work with it (never did). The Storage Device Support page doesn't show support for the -105 (only -103 and -104), but things seem to work for the previous poster. So: is the -105 supported or not? If not, any updates on if/when it will? Thanks!
