sbken
I’m using the split catalog file to perform backups with my iBook, OS 9.2.2, 320MB, Retrospect 5.0.238, with backup to an external FireWire/USB HD. When I try to Verify one of the backup files I receive the -24205 error. If I then attempt to Repair the damaged catalog Retrospect runs for several hours (the slowness of USB)and then quits unexpectedly. I tried this several times and Retrospect apears to quit when it is nearly finished. Prior to running Retrospect I’ve quit all other applications and expanded the Retrospect memory to 100 MB. Doesn’t help. Now for the real mystery! I took my FireWire/USB HD to a friend’s eMac with OS 10.2.3 and Retrospect 5.0.238 and when I attempted to repair the Retrospect catalog file the eMac reported that the file was okay and did I really want to repair it? I said yes and when I took the HD back to my iBook the catalog file was still damaged. All I can think of doing is deleting that backup file and starting over. To cover all bases I’ve also ordered super-quality USB cables (Belkin Gold) and will replace all my USB cables. Comments/suggestions?
