Problems with TDK veloCD 52/24/48 CDRW5200B

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem trying to use Retrospect 6.0 (and RDU 3.7.105) with a TDK veloCD 52/24/48 (CDRW5200B).

Retrospect recognizes the drive in the Environment window but when I attempt to do a new backup (or anything) I'm told I have to configure the drive to use it even though it's passed certification according to Dantz' web site.

When I try to create a configure file it ultimately fails.

This drive was just installed and reads and writes fine in other programs but I wanted to use Retrospect (I've used the program since the beta Mac days) so I specifically had this drive put in.

I notice "Devices Using NT Passthrough.." in the environment window. Using XP Home and TDK media -- anyone have an idea what I can tweak?

Thanks,

This drive does not require auto-configuration. Please make sure the driver is loading correctly, and is installed according to the Read Me included with the RDU download.

If correctly loading, your log should look similar to this:

Retrospect version 6.0.206

Launched at 4/21/2003 8:03 AM

Retrospect Driver Update, version 3.7.105

You can also try downloading a new copy from:

Thanks Amy,

I'll try another download of the rdu as you suggested.

The log was showing "Retrospect Driver Update 3.7.105" but maybe the update got scrambled. (it was showing 6.0.206 as the current version in the log before I installed the update and rebooted).

The version of Retrospect I'm running is an upgrade, downloaded from Dantz, from Express 5.6, if that affects anything.

I'll be able to test it by Wednesday and I'll leave word either way.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry it took so long for me to get back but I had to go out of town unexpectedly.

Retrospect still doesn't want to work with the CD-RW drive.

Here's some added info:

1. I removed then reinstalled Retrospect 6.0 to make sure it didn't get corrupted (it's 6.0.206)

2. I loaded the latest RDU and the log shows I'm running version 3.8.106

I still can't get Retrospect to work in conjunction with the CD/RW.

At the splash screen if I press "Configure" I get a message saying "No devices found"

A tab reads "Devices Visible using NT passthrough". I'm using XP Home.

I then press the "Environment" tab and the screen shows:

VENDOR - TDK

PRODUCT - CDRW401240X

VERSION - 1.T01

DRIVER - Nothing is showing in this column <-----------

In regards to the product designation, the box the drive came in shows 5200B and TDK's support page FAQ reads (in answer ID

238) "The 40/12/48 VeloCD drives are purposely reported by the Windows Device Manager as a CDRW401240."

Any ideas?

Thanks,

The supported drive from our list is the TDK veloCD 52/24/48 (CDRW5200B version). It sounds as if TDK has changed internal mechanisms to CDRW401240. This mechanism has not been qualifed by Dantz Development, which is why the driver is not in the program.

If the auto-configurator fails with 6.0, you should try a trial version of 6.5 Retrospect which was released yesterday. We made some changes that will allow more drives to build custom configurations.
