Pansonic Multidrive SW-9571 problem

Recommended Posts

I have only just installed one of these mutidrives, after installing respect 6 pro trial it worked fine as a removable drive and always recognised DVD-RAM disks, although CD-R/W & DVD-R/W were not recognised (nothing turned when I inserted the disk and wen to Devices ..) so I updated to the latest driver version 3.7.105 and it seems to work fine including CD-R/W & DVD-R/W disk and previous used DVD-RAM disks just mount as a separate device in Device Status.

Problems start if you insert a newly formatted disk before you do anything else the status that says Panasonic DVD-RAM/RW always comes up with "Content unrecognised" and if attempt to erase from within retrospect I get the following "couldn't erase disk, error -100 (device rejected command)"

The only way I can use a this newly formatted disk is by inserting a previously used DVD-RAM disk with backup data already on it, when inserting this previously used disk it mounts a new device which then recognises the newly erased when inserted after it. I there anyway of getting it to recognise erased disks on there own.

I use XP-PRO and I format the disks as UDF 1.5, anyhow it isn't that retrospect can't mount the disks it just can't mount them without first putting in a disk that has already been used by retrospect (meaning it has retrospect data on it) first which it mounts, after that retrospect is happy to mount the disk, but if just start retrospect and insert a newly formatted disk without first inserting the use disk I get the error message outlined above.

Has anyone actually had any luck with these Drives using Windows XP,

I have just installed this on a New Machine , installed the latest drivers formthe panasonic website, but I get exactly the same problem as described above, the Disk works fine Under Xp as a RAM Disk I can copy to it etc. however I cannot get reptrospect to recognise the Disks it always say "Unrecognized Media" selecting and clicking erase just give me the -100 error also as described previously, and this time I have no previous retrospect disk to use first, I tried everything, ASPI. swapped IDE cable, master slave settings, and as these 2 machines are completely independent of each other I find it had to believe that Retrospect say that this device is fully compatible what did they test it with, I tried 3 diffrent types of Didk 5.2GB Double sided, 4.7GB SS, 9.4 DS 2 different brands Kodak & Verbatim. I have gathered that this is an implacability with the way XP mounts the Drive, I have Retrospect 6.5. There doesn't seem to be this issue with peiveous OS like 98 and 2000 as they mount the Drive as 2 disks,

Any help would be appreciated. No conbination of disk first start software second makes and vice-versa had no effect. I am stumped. I had no problems with a CD-RW
