ebob
I have a beige G3. I used the VXA-1 under OS 8.6 and had trouble with system freezes during overnight backups. It turned out from Ecrix that the total SCSI chain length can't be more than 9 inches, because the VXA-1 uses a high-speed SCSI connection. On their advice I bought a Firewire adaptor from Orange Micro and their external FW-SCSI Orange Converter. Everything worked beautifully. Then I moved to OS X and lived off of manual backups of critical files to removable disk and CD-RW. I was making backups under Retro Workgroup 5.0 beta with this ocnfiguration. Now Retrospect Desktop 5.0 is out, Retrospect freezes at random times when accessing the tape drive. Sometimes it is when setting up the backup set. Sometimes it is early during a recycle backup, other times is it within the last hundred files of a recycle backup. Is anyone else using a VXA-1 with Orange Converter or using the VXA-1f?
