Can't initialize video using Disaster Recovery CD-R

I am receiving the following when attempting a restore using a just created recovery CD-R. Is this a problem with a missing video driver? I thought that the recovery image would include the needed drivers? Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

" Setup has encountered a fatal error while initializing your computers video. Contact your product support representative for support. The following stsus codes will assist them in diagnosing the problem ( 0, oxc0000034 ). Setup cannot continue, power down or reboot your computer. "

Relevant info:

Pentium 2 400, Windows NT4.0 Service Pack 4, ATI video card circa 1999

Upgraded to Service Pack 6a and installed a GeForce mx420 64MB AGP video card. Did a backup, burned a new recovery CD, and am having the exact same issue. Looked around in the BIOS for possible problems, but didn't see any. Changed the boot video device from PCI to AGP but didn't see anything else that would seem to cause a problem.

Can anyone help me? I'm out of ideas, and don't know what else to try.

If more information is needed, please let me know and I will try to provide it. Thank you.

We haven't seen this particular issue, however, we are aware of instances where not all needed drivers are copied to the DR CD image.

When booting from the Disaster Recovery CD, you will get a chance to add custom device drivers by pressing F6.

If you do miss this step when booting from the CD, reboot from the DR CD and add any additional drivers that are needed to access the video card.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pressed F6 during boot from CD and inserted floppy with video card drivers. Received message " The file txtsetup.oem could not be found. Press any key to continue. "

Am I missing something? Is there a particular way the floppy needs to be prepared?

Alternately, is it possible that I could put the drivers someplace ( copy and paste ) where the program would be sure to find them and include them when making the Disaster Recovery image file?

Thanks in advance.

The Disaster Recovery functionality of Retrospect was one of the main reasons that I chose to purchase this software. The fact that this feature does not function properly is very frustrating. The lack of timely support for this issue via this forum is also troubling. I don't feel as though I should be required to pay nearly the original purchase price of the software again in order to have it function as advertised. I understand that providing phone support cost money, but I feel this board should be a viable option for timely technical support.

The following Microsoft article may provide more information on creating a driver disk properly. It is generally best to use the discs provided by the manufacturer during DR.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/install/hh/install/txtsetup_1wmq.asp

When creating the DR CD, the wizard will ask for the txtsetup.sif. Where are you getting the file from? The computer? A CD? If a CD, what CD?

If a driver is not included on the DR CD then one explanation is that the driver that was a Microsoft driver, rather than a third-party driver.

The only 'selection' process that Retrospect utilizes is whether or not the device's driver has native support (i.e. has a Microsoft driver) within the OS or is a third-party driver. We only copy third-party drivers during the Disaster Recovery ISO image creation.
