Paul2
When I run a script in Retrospect 6.0 on Windows XP, it reports "Preparing to execute" for several minutes before it appears to actually do something. I've turned off the option to back up security data, but that didn't seem to make much improvement. Anyone know what's going on?
AmyJ
What are you backing up to? If backing up to a hard drive, try turning off System Restore. Windows XP has a "System Restore" feature turned on by default. To increase backup stability try turn off "System Restore" from System Properties for "all drives" by going to: Control Panels > System > System Restore. Paul2
System Restore is turned on, but frankly I'm not sure turning it off would be a good idea. Isn't that likely to cause problems if later I install some driver that screws up, and I have to remove it? Especially since I'm not backing up the Program Files or Windows directories with Retrospect.
AmyJ
You can try turning if off for only the destination drive to see if this improves performance. There is a known conflict in some configurations between WindowsXP System Restore and Retrospect when writing to external hard drives. You can also try using a Disk backup set, rather then a File backup set if you're not already.
Paul2
I'll try that. Thanks.
