Retro 5.0.238/Driver Update 3.4.103: No burner found in my eMac?

Recommended Posts

My new eMac has a Philips CDD5101 built-in. According to the Retro website, it should be supported.

Configure->Devices says "no backup devices". A rescan only shows ATAPI but no make/model info.

Apple System Profiler sees it:

CD-RW/DVD-ROM

Disc Burning Fully supported.

Unit Number 0

ATA Device Type atapi

Device Serial H92470962NVGA

Device Revision A4.2

Product Identification CDD5101

Vendor Identification PHILIPS

(I'm running as the administrator; the system is MacOS X 10.2.4.)

Any ideas? I'm stumped. Finder CD burning works fine.

I have 3.4.103.

The Device Status shows no device info at all, just the "ATAPI" field with nothing else filled in. Rescanning doesn't help.

(By way of contrast, I've seen a "proper" display on a TiBook, where that copy of Retrospect displays device info similar to that shown by Apple System Profiler.)

I found it.

That system remains running/sleeping all the time. I had not restarted.

This morning, I recalled that there's a RetroRun startup item, which, of course, wasn't running till the restart.

All is now well, as it should be. My mistake.

I have become so accustomed to not having to restart that it can occasionally be my downfall.
