ASIP server crashes when Retro 5 autolaunches

Hi,

Have been experiencing file server crashes (using ASIP) ever since we installed Retro 5 about 6 months ago on our G4 server. We've not had a consistent back-up since! The server crashes when Retrospect autolaunches. Sometimes it works for a week or two but inevitably, it brings the server down eventually.

 

I found Article ID: 26688 about this problem

 

"Dantz has been investigating several problems that customers have reported when backing up an AppleShare IP server with Retrospect 5.0. Reported problems include:

1) The ASIP server crashes when Retrospect 5.0 autolaunches or is launched from an alias.

2) The ASIP server crashes at the beginning of a backup with the Retrospect 5.0 client.

3) Retrospect returns "error 1 (unknown)" for some files backed up from an ASIP server with the Retrospect 5.0 client."

 

Are there any workarounds for this problem yet -- beside upgradign to Mac OS X server?

I'd like to add an addendum to my previous message ... Retrospect immediately freezes the file server when it is launched now so I'm not having problems with just autolaunch. I just trashed the preferences and the application and reinstalled the program, which has fixed the problem before, but not this time.
