OS X Client Installer Problem

I've tried to install the 5 client that came with Retrospect Server (I bought & downloaded the upgrade on 3/28/02). When running the OSX client installer on two G4s, the installer brings up a dialog asking for authentication by admin, which I enter. Then the installer quits. The next time you run the installer, it doesn't ask for authentication and installs the client, but when I reboot and run the client it says it wasn't installed with admin privs and says to reinstall.

 

 

 

I got around this by going to the terminal and running the client installer as root, but this is a very inconvenient workaround. What is the problem with the installer?

Did you ever have other versions of the Retrospect client on these machines? Beta or Preview? Or a 4.3 client on your classic system?

I had the Preview installed on the machines and ran the preview uninstaller prior to running the final client installer. I have several more clients to install today and will report back. They are all running MacOS X 10.1.3 and have been running the Preview client for a few weeks.

Have you tried installing the client from the desktop? I had similar problems and when I removed the client and reinstalled from the desktop my problems disappeared.

It seems like the authentification process has some errors on the client since it is required to have the client installer locally on the computer you are installing at.
