brian0526
I'm a newbie Mac user. I signed up for .Mac and I absolutely hate the backup software that comes with it. I've been using an Internet backup service on my PC for years and compared to that, this one is slow and unreliable. I'd like to find a way to back up my data to my .Mac disk. Will Retrospect do this for me? Thanks, Brian
AmyJ
Retrospect is compatible with the Apple iDisk but its use is very limited. The iDisk Read Me indicates that your iDisk volume can not remain mounted on the desktop for more than 60 minutes per session. This will limit the window of time in which you can do a backup. In our tests, writing to the iDisk produced speeds of less then .5 MB per minute. You can use the Duplicate feature, rather then the Backup feature, but you'll still see very slow transfer speeds. The 60 minute session limit combined with the slow transfer rates may prevent you from completing backup sessions.
Mayoff
I personally have never played with Retrospect and .Mac. I would expect you to run into issues like performance and not having very much space available on .mac to store files. I think your best answer will come from users who have tried it. Anyone? I tried Retrospect with iDisk and it seemed to work, but was very slow due to internet limits, not Retrospect limits.
