Dave_Holly
Using Windows 98, I have tried to create a disaster recovery image but am getting an error. The log says:- "+ Executing Prepare for Disaster Recovery at 31/03/2003 14:19 From Backup Set Backup Set B, Snapshot New_vol1 (C:) 31/03/2003 13:00 To CD-ROM image file Restore NEW_VOL1.iso... File "C:\WINDOWS\smartcrd.dat": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) MapError: unknown Windows error 0 31/03/2003 14:41:31: 1 execution errors" I have tried this twice. The second time with all other programs closed, but with the same result. I have noticed that this file was also not backed up:- "- 31/03/2003 13:00:10: Copying New_vol1 (C:) File "C:\WINDOWS\smartcrd.dat": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) 31/03/2003 13:06:33: Snapshot stored, 23.4 MB 31/03/2003 13:09:43: Comparing New_vol1 (C:)" Any ideas anyone? Dave_Holly
I probably should have also mentioned that this is the 30 day trial version, and so I cannot get any technical support from dantz. If I can't get this problem sorted, there will be no point in buying the software.

FrancisLajoie
Hi, I have encountered exactly the same problem but with another file: + Executing Prepare for Disaster Recovery at 05/06/2003 18:30 From Backup Set Backup Épervier C, Snapshot Cyrano (C:) 05/06/2003 08:21 To CD-ROM image file Restore CYRANO.iso... File "C:\WINDOWS\PFPJOBPR.{PB": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) MapError: unknown Windows error 0 05/06/2003 18:37:13: 1 execution errors This is the whole story: After having downloaded the trial version and installed it, I made a first backup of my whole system. While backing up my D: hard drive Retrospect crashed. I then restarted the whole process but backing up only the C: drive. Everything worked fine. I had 23 error messages regarding modify dates which is no problem. I tried to make the Disaster recovery and got the same message as above but with a different time date tag since it was made at a different moment. So I decided to exclude the offending file from the backup and restarted the process all over. The backup worked fine, with the same error messages, but the disaster recovery did not. I then had the message given above. I went to your Web site and called your 1 888 support line. After having waited for more than half an hour I had to free the phone line. I called again this morning and had to wait for almost another half an hour and was told that there is no phone support for the trial version and that I should try the forum. So here I am. I made a search on the forum and found that someone else had the same problem with another file. What was my surprise to read your answer refering him to the Web site page where I at first found the support phone number I already have tried. According to the search I made on the Web, I finally chose to try Retrospect because the product and the company seemed more serious than its competition. I already wasted approximately 25 hours trying to get through the backup and disaster recovery process on a single computer only to find out that I get a problem I can't solve by myself and that for some reason no one wants to get involved with. Would you be kind enough to prove me wrong and give me a clue of some sort? Except for the TSR programs, no other program was running. What I call TSR programs are the programs that appear on the right side of the Windows 98 task bar. Among them are Norton Internet Security, Lexmark printer driver, Winzip, Adaptec's Direct CD and Create CD, RealPlayer, NVidia Media Center and WinAmp Agent. As for the offending file I don't know what it is used for. I would say from its extension that it is a Paintbrush file but I don't use PaintBrush... Thanks for your attention. Hoping for a prompt answer, Francis Lajoie
