Hartmuth
I just installed the Mac version of Retrospect 5.0 Desktop on my computer (a dual processor 800MHz PowerMac G4, MacOS 10.1.3, 1.0 GB RAM, 2 x 80 GB hard drive, Ecrix VXA tape drive) and discovered to my disappointment that the back up data rate has gone down to an abysmal 2 MB/min. Previously, I was able to achieve close to 100 MB/min using Retrospect 5.0beta on MacOS 10.1.3 on identical hardware. Does anyone know what might be happening here? I would very much appreciate any advice you can give.
Mayoff
We do expect OS X users to have reduced performance compared to OS 9 users, but only by a few percent. What connection method is our VXA drive using? SCSI or FireWire? Create File Backup Set. Save the File Backup set to a local hard disk and use it as a "test" destination rather then the VXA drive. When writing to the test File Backup Set, what is the performance? Is it also very slow or faster? If the test runs very fast, then you could be having a communication problem with the VXA drive. mouseorgan
I have the same problem (OS 10.2.8 Server, G3 450, 768Mb RAM) backing up to DLT 8000. Was getting up to 100Mb/min under OS 9 but now my back up starts at 75Mb/min but after about 30Mb drops over time to 2Mb/min. The initial burst is about 10 seconds then real slow. CallMeDave
Quote: I have the same problem You also omit information about your hardware, specficially the make/model of your scsi host adapter. SCSI in OS X is much less forgiving then it was in OS 9; that may explain the speed differences. Dave
