Client Startup error

Retrospect Mac 4.3, MacOS 9.2.2

Client 5.0, Win 2000

From the W2K Client:

"Retrospect Client Startup error. Initalization failed. Make sure IP Protocol is installed."

From the MAC side:

"The client is not visibile"

Everything has been operating fine untill a couple days ago.

Client initialization fails at startup.

Checked IP Configuration - using both "ipconfig -all" and ping

All checks out OK. Yes, I am able to ping my MAC from the Windows Client Computer.

Yes, I am able to access the internet from the W2K computer.

Unable to remove client.

Either I get "unable to find C:\ProgramFiles\Dantz\Client\Uninst.isn" or

Uninstall program locks up and I must terminate with the Task Manager.

Manually removing all the components from the Client Folder and then re-installing from the CDRom does not result in a clean install of the client - still sees it as an "upgrade".

After reboot, same problem.

How do I get out of this? Either I need to get the client to inicialize or I need to remove it.

Manually remove the client and then download the latest version of the client software from: Updatescolor=blue>

The 5.0 Windows client is many years old.

1. Log in to the PC as the Administrator.

2. Stop the client.

Select "Retrospect Client" in the Services control panel (In Windows NT: Start menu\Settings\Control Panel\Services. In Windows 2000: Start menu:Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services) and click Stop. Close the Services window.

3. Search for and delete the following items from your hard drive:

All items in the directory:

C:\Program Files\Dantz\Client\

Or (if the client was updated from an older 1.0 or 1.1 client)

C:\Dantz\Remote\

Plus, all the following items:

C:\WINNT\remreg.dll

C:\WINNT\system32\dantz.scr

C:\WINNT\system32\retroclient.cpl

Windows NT only:

C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Retrospect Client\

Windows 2000 only:

C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Retrospect Client\

Step 2—Registry Entries to Delete

1. Open Regedit by typing "Regedit" into the DOS prompt.

2. Search for and delete any of the following registry keys and folders (folders are identified with the trailing backslash ("\")) that may exist on your system. NOTE: Do not be alarmed if not all registry entries appear on your system; this is a list of all possibilities across a wide range of operating system and Retrospect versions.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\

Start Menu\Programs\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\

Start Menu\&Programs\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dantz\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Retroclient.exe\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services\Retrospect Client

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Migration DLLs\Dantz Development Corp. Retrospect Client 5.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Services\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Retrospect Client\

HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu\&Programs\Retrospect Client\

3. Alternatively, perform a search in Regedit for "Dantz," "Retrospect Client," and "retroclient.exe" and delete all associated keys and folders. If you are unsure as to whether a key or folder should be deleted, consult the list above. NOTE: The following "legacy" registry entries cannot be deleted, but will not negatively affect your system in any way:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

  • 5 years later...

It won't let me delete the following files or reg values

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\

LEGACY_RETROSPECT_CLIENT\

and

C:\WINNT\system32\retroclient.cpl

It says retroclient.cpl is in use by windows but the service is not running and I have deleted all the other stuff.

I am confused. You have replied to a forum post that is **5 years old**

Why are you deleting registry keys? Why aren't you using add/remove programs like most users?

Some specific details about your configuration and why you are doing what you are doing would be helpful
