pronto
Hi Community, during a backup of a Windows Server 2008 R2, the system logs several error massages with error code 8194, source VSS. I've no idea whats going wrong. Anybody out there who had the same problem and a solution for this? Thx & Bye Tom
johnnymacgo
Hi Tom, I'm not sure I'm getting the same exact error as you since I can't read German but I do get the following event logged to the application log on all my Windows 2008/Windows 2008 R2 systems when retrospect backs them up, this happens at multiple sites: Log Name: Application Source: VSS Date: 9/17/2010 11:41:13 PM Event ID: 8194 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: GAD Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied. . This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process. Operation: Gathering Writer Data Context: Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220} Writer Name: System Writer Regards, Johnny Mac
Antti
Same here. 2k8R2 servers seem to log this event while backing up. Have you solved this one?
Antti
Found one topic on the subject: http://forums.dantz.com/showtopic.php?tid/31502/, check it out. I guess they have got several support cases on this. They haven't done anything about it and the semi-official answer is that the error is meaningless. Or what? robvil
And I still have these errors on all my 2008 and 2008r2 servers ... and I´ll bet it is a Retrospect issue we are seeing here. Why else does a builtin MS backup not produce the same errors? Robert
Richy_Boy
I've been seeing RS backup 2x 3GB files from the System Volume Information directory (or at least I think it was that) every night. From checking the logs these files compress by 99%.. but obviously take a while to copy over. I have no idea what they are and why RS suddenly started backing them up! It's a hidden directory in C:\ which I can't even see from showing hidden directories. Does RS even support 2008 R2 yet? Rich
