More Win7 problems

Firt, the good news - I eventually found a solution (of sorts) to my "Retrospect is Locked" problem.

After disabling User Account Control, I did manage to duplicate one of my partitions. However, Retrospect is taking *ages* to start.

I just set out to time the startup.

It took more then two minutes for the main window to appear after I clicked the Retrospect icon. The windows showed no "locked" icon, but falsely claimed to be "ready" when the only button that would response to a mouse click was the little ? for help.

I waited to see the option screen to offer me the choices of backup/duplicate/etc. After more than *15 minutes* I gave up.

Checking with Process explorer, I could see that basically *nothing* was happening. There were no other programs hogging the memory - most of the time Sytem Idle was logged at 99% - 100%.

I have 2 GB Ram, and a 2.67 GB Intel Core2 Duo chip.

By comparison, running in Win XP (my system is set up to dual boot), it takes less than 10 seconds before I can see the option screen.

Can anyone suggest what might be the cause and the cure for my present lack of speed?

Assuming that this offers some clue to my problems - what does it all mean, and what action should I take in response?
