antilles
I have been a long time user of Retrospect and I recently upgraded to v8.1 and the console becomes unresponsive after a few minutes to a point where I can no longer navigate the interface. I have to force quit the application. I am running it on an Xeon Xerve with 12GB of RAM and a SSD startup disk and Apple Raid with backup to a LaCie AIT-2 tape drive. I searched this forum to see if other are experiencing the same issue but could not find any related posts. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? Maser
Yes. The console becomes sluggish when there are other activities running. For example, on my 4G Mac mini, I can get 5 backup activities running concurrently -- if I try to launch the console while this is happening, it can take many minutes before the console will populate with information (much less be responsive). It's less a problem when there are only 1-2 activities running. I think this is being looked at for the 8.2 beta.
antilles
I am running one single task at the moment and I sure hope this improves, because it is unusable the way it works now. I am performing a test restore and the gear is spinning inside the console window and it is otherwise completely unresponsive.

Have you tried running the console on a different computer, and having it talk to the Retrospect engine on the xServe? Russ
antilles
Nope, but I was considering this option.
Maser
Sometimes force-quitting the console app and relaunching it makes it work better. Sometimes.
antilles
Yes, I can force quite the console and it will open and run fine again, but as soon as I perform any task it becomes completely unresponsive again. Lets be honest, this is not acceptable work around. The new console doesn't give feedback right away and one has to go looking around to see that whatever action was just requested. I did a test restore and I had 3 tapes of this backup set and it took me a while to find which time it is requesting. This information is only available in the header of the window and it is easily missed, not like on previous versions which clearly informed you what is need next. So far I am not impressed at all. macjoy
Running the console on a separate computer definitely improves performance. Just be sure to open the firewall ports required to communicate with Retrospect Engine.
