ncmxOpenDLFile: can't open "retropds_macosx_uni.pdu", error -1101

Recommended Posts

Hello.

While I tried to backup existing sources (folders on remote clients) into existing mediasets (local harddrive) I see a strange backup error in the log, but cannot find a solution.

Those source-folders and mediaset do exist, and a month ago the script worked.

Server

Retrospect Multiserver v.8.1.626.1

MacPro 2x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core, 6 GB Ram

Mac OS X, 10.5.8

Client

Retroclient 6.3.028

Mac Mini Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz, 2 GB Ram

One script should backup 3 different folders on network client, but produces the following error on all three folders instead: (ncmxOpenDLFile: can't open "retropds_macosx_uni.pdu", error -1101(File/Folder not found)

I couldn't find "retropds_macosx_uni.pdu" but instead "retropds.22" and "retropds.24" inside the "Recources" Folder in "Retrospect Client.app, so maybe the client is missing something?

Thank you for your Ideas.

Connection to the client seems to work. Hitting the "Refresh" button under "Sources" shows "Summery" info about the client. The Client has the green OK status but its two sources (volumes on which the 3 folders reside) show status "offline"?!

So this sounds more like an *engine* problem. Maybe stop the engine and reboot the computer?

Or reinstall the engine software?

Thank you Maser.

You were right, reinstalling the engine helped.

All four of the ".pdu" files were missing in my installation.

When version 8.1.626 came out I made a complete Retrospect software reinstall on the server, and successfull backed up the retroclients. Really strange, I cannot imagine where the files are gone.

While testing stuff, I've had odd engine install issues as well.

There has been more than one instance where I've clean-installed the engine, but when I fired up the console, it didn't try to create a config80.dat file to enter a license code, etc.

A reinstall worked. It's nothing I could ever reproduce, either.

It's possible that you have filesystem corruption. I suggest that you use Disk Utility (booted from the Apple install DVD so that the startup volume can be fixed) to check (and repair, if needed) your filesystem.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you for the hint Russ.

I had time to check the filesystem but it is OK.

Disk Utility and latest DiskWarrior found no errors.

Whatever. After I copied the 4 missing .pdu files from a backup, client backups are running again.

Problem solved, thank you all.
