blreimer
What does "busy status" source mean? I am running OS 10.6.3 Retrospect 8.1.626 If I have a problem [hang, crash] when I get Retro going again the client is "busy". I four clients: 3 busy clients and one green [backed up] one. rhwalker
It usually means that the client thinks it is talking to a Retrospect server (your previously-crashed process). You don't say which version of the Retrospect client you are using. The older clients used to have a lockfile that could be deleted (I forget the name of it, and I can't seem to find that information in the knowledgebase right now). There have never been any release notes on the newer client versions. Have you tried rebooting the "busy" clients? That used to be another way of clearing the lockfile. Russ I tried re-booting the clients. Nada. They are using different client versions: 6.3.027; 6.1.130; 6.1.107. So I will go around with my trusty flash drive and upgraded all to 6.3.028. I'll keep you informed. Thanks, Brian
Maser
What if you stop the "retrospect engine" from the system preference and restart it? Any difference to those clients? Also, i you have any "Proactive" backup scripts running, the scripts will poll the clients regularly to see if the client toggled the "As Soon As Possible" client backup option. So, clients will likely be busy (briefly) while that polling goes on. How often clients are polled by proactive scripts, I'm not 100% sure -- I've not tried to quantify this. Beginning with, I believe, Retrospect Client 6.3.x, things had different names and parts, and used a different installer. I'm not sure you uninstalled all the parts of the 6.1.x clients. The install/uninstall process, shall we say, leaves much to be desired. You have to uninstall using the uninstaller for the version of the Client that you installed, then install the new one. See this recent thread here for details: Client install / uninstall issues (that link jumps to the middle of the thread, read that post and the following one).
