7.7 Multi-Server non-Proactive scripts running as Proactive

Recommended Posts

I have 2 proactive scripts for 2 sets of laptops using 2 source groups each. I have 1 scheduled script for desktops using 2 different source groups. My problem is that the desktop machines are being backed up by the proactive scripts during the the day. The scheduled scripts are due to start in 30 mins. I will confirm that they are being backed up then. I used exactly this approach with 7.0 without issue. These are my first backups using 7.7.

What I don't understand is that the source groups used by the proactive scripts do not have the desktop volumes anywhere in them and yet they are being backed up with the proactive scripts. How is that possible?

Puzzled, Greg.

Lennart,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the desktops are appearing in the Activity window Proactive pane. That is how I knew something was wrong. And yes, I have checked and double checked the source groups. In fact, the volumes on the desktops that appear in the Activity window, Proactive pane don't appear in any other source groups and those source groups only appear in the scheduled script.

I just checked the overnight run and interestingly the proactive source groups were attempted (the laptops weren't online, of course) during the scheduled script's run.

On closer inspection what is happening is that each volume (irrespective of source group) is being backed up in each of the 2 proactive scripts and the scheduled script. So everything is being backed up 3 times each day.

An ideas?

Thanks, Greg.

Interesting problem.

If you expand the source groups (by clicking on the small + ), what do you see? Do you see groups inside groups? Do you see the desktops inside the laptops source group?

EDIT: Attached is how it is set up here. "Bärbara" is Swedish for "portable" and the clients listed are indeed just the portable/laptops.

Lennart,

Thanks for the image. It highlighted my issue and a bug in 7.7.

Each of my source groups has a member called 'Source Groups container'. I was used to this appearance as it was there in 7.0. Now in 7.7 it seems that it is now being actioned in some way and so each Source Group now seems to contain the entire set of Source Groups. This was my problem. I removed this '...Container' and the problem went away.

Most interesting is that if I create a new Group then that new group automatically contains the 'Source Group Container' entry. Of course my process is now to delete that line every time I create a new Source Group. I'd attach my screenshot but I don't seem to have permission.

Thank you very much, Greg.

System: Windows Server 2008 in a KVM.

Retrospect: 7.7.325
