lcdretro
I am trying to create a file media set. I can't figure out how to choose the hard disk that will hold the file. The only choice I have is where to store the catalog. Add Member is greyed out. The only reference I could find in the User Guide says "They can be saved anywhere a Disk Media Set can be saved...." How do I tell Retrospect where to save the file? Thanks.
CallMeDave
The only choice I have is where to store the catalog That's it. A File Media Set combines the data into the catalog; the location to which you save the Catalog file will contain the pair of files that contain your data. rhwalker
The only reference I could find in the User Guide says "They can be saved anywhere a Disk Media Set can be saved...." Did you see the discussion on page 30 of the User Guide? File Media Sets [color:red]combine the Catalog file and the backed-up data into a single file stored on a volume[/color]. They can be saved anywhere a Disk Media Set can be saved, but they are limited by the size of the volume on which it is stored, and also the maximum file size of the file system (FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, etc.). Backups in a File Media Set cannot span across media. File Media Sets are useful for small jobs where everything (the Catalog and the backed up data) is self-contained in a single file, but in most cases, you should use Disk Media Sets. Dave is right. You must have just missed this discussion. The only choice I have is where to store the catalog. Admittedly, the GUI would be more clear if it instead asked where you wanted to store the File Media Set. Russ
