DetweilerDesign
I am unable to enable my optical device. I'm running a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core, OS 10.6.3. Using Retrospect 8.1. I've been working at this a couple hours and it's driving me crazy (been using Retrospect for years and this isn't the first time I've had major issue -- every time I upgrade there's a problem). I have the article: Retrospect 8.x for Macintosh Optical Support which discusses the problem with recognizing optical devices with Retrospect 8.1 I ran the Optical Configurator out of Retrospect. It appeared to successful recognize the drive, however, the test never stopped. It just hung after successfully recognizing the drive and there still isn't a disclosure triangle next to the device. Now, here's the frustrating part. In the section "How to enable optical device support in Retrospect 8" it explains the way to edit "retro.ini" file in Text Editor. Unfortunately, the folders stop at /Library/Application Support/Retrospect. According to the support discussion there should be the following folders to drill down to: "RetrospectEngine.bundle/Contents/MacOS/retro.ini" There is a file: RetrospectEngine.bundle and a file "retro.ini" Opening the retro.ini file there's no command like "DisableOpticalDrivers" No clue what to do. Try Option-Click (or right-click if you have a multibutton mouse) on RetrospectEngine.bundle and select Show Package Contents. Then you should be able to see the (normally hidden) folders inside the bundle. (From memory. Not on my Mac at the moment)

DetweilerDesign
OK, I spoke too soon. Now I can't get my CD/DVD drive to open -- in Retrospect or out of Retrospect. Any suggestions?
