mlevin77
I had a G5 Xserve running Tiger and a huge Retrospect 6 backup saveset on an attached XRAID. The server died, and I had to get a new one which of course came with Snow Leopard. I'm told that my Retrospect 6 won't run on Snow Leopard - is that true? What's the easiest way to get my stuff restored (before I worry about what to use next for a backup program)? thanks! Mike
twickland
I'm told that my Retrospect 6 won't run on Snow Leopard - is that true? Unfortunately, yes. Worse, Retrospect 8, which will run on 10.6, stupidly won't read earlier backup sets. Your only real option is to locate a computer that will run 10.5 or earlier, install Retrospect 6, and attach an external disk drive that you can restore to. Once you have done this, you'll be able to mount the external volume on your new Xserve. If you need the files on an internal volume, you can copy them in Finder. I wish there was a better option I could suggest.
rhwalker
There is a third option that twickland didn't mention, because it involves a bit of patience and hope for the future. There is rumored to be a Retrospect 8.2 public beta to be released this week. See: emcretrospect twitter page One of the features of that public beta, in addition to a rumored hundreds of bug fixes, is the ability to read Retrospect 6 backup sets. I would suggest that you wait a few days, and you may have an interesting test case (as I do) for the Retrospect 8.2 beta. Russ
