Steve Beresford
We are having issues with files that are being moved location on the same server but having the same name NOT being backed up from their new location. Is their anyway of setting the backup to recognise that a file has moved location? Thanks.
CallMeDave
We are having issues with files that are being moved location on the same server but having the same name NOT being backed up from their new location. Have the (contents of the) files been modified? By default, Retrospect will Match a file in any location, across a volume or across multiple clients. To tell the program to include location into its Matching criteria, set: [color:purple]Scripts->FooScript->Options->Backup/Matching->"Match only files in same location/path" [/color]
Steve Beresford
Thanks for that CallMeDave. We have tried to check this on but we are not given an option to save this setting and when we open the script again it is not checked? The file name is the same and HAS not been modified? But moved from one folder to another.
Steve Beresford
Sorry I forgot. The other issue is leading on from this: the file in folder location (x) has been moved to new folder location (y). The file name has remained the same and the file has NOT been modified. When we try to recover the file from backup using Folder search. the new file is not shown as being in location (y)? We can search by volume and still find the file in location (x)? We have tried backups using - your solution: a) With the button checked - lots of unwanted other file duplicates are created? With the button unchecked the file is still in location (x) I think this is a bit clearer.

When we try to recover the file from backup using Folder search. the new file is not shown as being in location (y) Searching Restores don't use the Snapshot; they inspect the entire Catalog(s) for items meeting your criteria. That's why the Restore Assistant doesn't use the term "point-in-time" when stepping through the Search options. Matched files are only backed up once, the first time they're encountered; if you didn't change the file it wasn't written again to the Media, so without the Snapshot, Retrospect can only display it's actual location at the time it was copied. If you Restore with the "Restore selected files and folders" option and then Browse the Snapshot, the file should show up in location (y) a) With the button checked - lots of unwanted other file duplicates are created? Does that mean the report up-thread of the Option setting not persisting is in error? One way to reduce redundancy would be to limit the Source by using Favorite Folder(s) and to minimize the number of Sources in the Media Set. But yeah, the whole point of Matching is to reduce duplicates; disable that (compelling) feature and you get larger Media Sets.
Steve Beresford
Thanks Dave. I think this has shed some light on the situation. I see what you mean about snapshot. searching files and folders on a selected volume seems to work.
